Managing Comment Reports
This guide explains how to handle user-reported comments in the admin panel. As an administrator, you can review reports, take appropriate moderation actions, and maintain a positive community environment.
Accessing the Comment Reports Section
- Log in to the admin panel with your administrator credentials
- Navigate to the Content section in the sidebar
- Click on Comment Reports to access the report management interface
Viewing Comment Reports
The Comment Reports page displays a table with all reports submitted by users. The table includes the following information:
- ID: The unique identifier for the report
- Comment: The content of the reported comment
- Reported By: The name of the user who submitted the report
- Reason: The reason for the report (Spam, Offensive Content, Other)
- Status: The current status of the report (Pending, Reviewed, Resolved, Dismissed)
- Hidden: Whether the reported comment is hidden from users
- Reported At: When the report was submitted
You can:
- Search for reports by comment content or reporter name
- Sort the table by clicking on column headers
- Filter reports based on various criteria:
- Status (Pending, Reviewed, Resolved, Dismissed)
- Reason (Spam, Offensive Content, Other)
- Hidden comments
- Visible comments

Viewing Report Details
To view detailed information about a report:
- Find the report in the table
- Click on the View button (eye icon) in the actions column
The report detail page shows comprehensive information about the report, organized into sections:
Report Details Section
- Report ID
- User who submitted the report
- Reason for the report
- Additional details provided by the reporter
- When the report was submitted
Comment Content Section
- The full content of the reported comment
- The author of the comment
Moderation Section
- Current status of the report
- Whether the comment is hidden
- Admin notes about the report

Editing a Report
To edit a report's information:
- Find the report in the table
- Click the Edit button (pencil icon) in the actions column
- Update the report information as needed:
- Status: Change the status of the report
- Hide Comment: Toggle whether the reported comment is hidden
- Admin Notes: Add or update notes about the report
- Click Save to apply your changes

Moderating Reported Comments
The system provides several actions to help you moderate reported comments effectively:
Approving Reports
When a report is reviewed and the comment is found to be appropriate:
- Find the report in the table
- Click the Approve button (check icon) in the actions column
- The report status will change to "Resolved"
- If the comment was hidden, it will be made visible again
- Admin notes will be updated automatically
Dismissing Reports
When a report is reviewed and found to be invalid or unnecessary:
- Find the report in the table
- Click the Dismiss button (X icon) in the actions column
- The report status will change to "Dismissed"
- Admin notes will be updated automatically
Hiding/Showing Reported Comments
To hide a reported comment from users or make it visible again:
- Find the report in the table
- Click the Hide Comment or Show Comment button in the actions column
- The comment visibility will be toggled
- If the report was pending, its status will change to "Reviewed"
- Admin notes will be updated automatically
Understanding Report Status
Reports can have one of four statuses:
- Pending Review: New reports that haven't been addressed yet
- Reviewed: Reports that have been looked at but not fully resolved
- Resolved: Reports that have been addressed and the appropriate action taken
- Dismissed: Reports that were determined to be invalid or not requiring action
The status helps track the progress of moderation and ensures all reports are properly handled.
Bulk Actions
You can perform actions on multiple reports at once:
- Select reports by checking the boxes next to them
- Use the bulk actions menu to choose an action:
- Approve Selected: Mark multiple reports as resolved and approve their comments
- Dismiss Selected: Mark multiple reports as dismissed
- Hide Comments: Hide the comments for multiple reports
- Show Comments: Make the comments for multiple reports visible
- Delete Selected: Remove multiple reports from the system
Managing the Report Queue
To effectively manage the report queue:
- Start by filtering for "Pending" reports to see what needs attention
- Review each report by examining:
- The reported comment content
- The reason for the report
- Any additional details provided by the reporter
- Take appropriate action based on your community guidelines
- Add admin notes to document your decision-making process
- Move on to the next report
Best Practices
- Prioritize Reports: Address reports about offensive content first
- Be Consistent: Apply your community guidelines consistently across all reports
- Document Decisions: Use admin notes to record why you took specific actions
- Look for Patterns: Watch for users who are frequently reported or who submit many reports
- Regular Review: Set aside time daily to review pending reports
- Clear Guidelines: Ensure your community guidelines are clear so moderation decisions are easier
- Educate Users: When appropriate, explain to users why their comments were moderated
- Monitor Effectiveness: Track whether your moderation actions are reducing problematic comments
